Court dismisses suit against Ondo monarch’s installation

Olanipekun was installed nine years ago. But his installation was challenged by one of the princes of the town, Joseph Olanipekun, who instituted a suit that produced him. The monarch’s counsel, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, argued in a preliminary objection that the suit was filed out of time, and urged the court to dismiss it. Justice Akintan Osadebey upheld the objection and held that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit. Osadebay pointed out that the case was a duplication of a suit earlier dismissed by the court involving the two parties. The judge also ruled that the suit was filed outside the statutory period allowed by law. He noted that the plaintiff did not fulfill the conditions before filing it and thereafter ordered him to pay N100,000 to the Oba. Speaking after the verdict, Adegboruwa lauded the judge and the judiciary. According to him, in spite of its challenges, the judiciary still offered hope to all as the last bus stop to secure justice.
