BOOM...Drivers forced to pay £100 more to stay on the road
Motorists are being hammered by a £100 hike in car insurance, a study has revealed.
Drivers are now paying an average of £838 compared with £737 a year ago.
And there is a gender gap in favour of women who pay around £116 less than men who are deemed a higher risk on the roads.
The survey found experience was no longer a positive factor as drivers aged 61 were shelling out 23% more year-on-year while 21-year-olds also saw their premiums rise by 19%.
On average, newly qualified 17-year-olds were the hardest hit paying an average of £2,272 a year for car insurance.
