Getting Your Business Off the Ground: 5 Essentials

The startup world is an exciting one. It’s fast-paced, competitive, and incredibly satisfying as you watch your longstanding dreams become realities. However, just getting a business off the ground requires countless details to be in order – details that are easy to overlook if you’re not organized and prepared. We’ve assembled five of these base-level essentials that need to be in place before your business can flourish, so read on and you’ll be fully equipped for the adventure ahead.*

Know Your Target Market

When you’re first setting out to start your business, you need to be well acquainted with your target market. After all, it’s nearly impossible to sell a product if you don’t know whom you’re selling to!

Start by looking into some statistics and industry reports that will help you form a picture of the types of people that are interested in your product. Then, take a look at your competitors’ markets. This can make your job a little easier since they have already done the footwork to find their demographic.

Don’t be afraid to dig into social media; by checking out brands similar to your own on Facebook and Twitter, you’ll be able to see easily who follows which products and what other interests they share in common. All of your marketing is hinged on you knowing your target market thoroughly, so never stop learning about your potential buyers.

Finding Finance Options

Bringing your brainchild to life requires capital, and unless you’re independently wealthy, this means you’ll need to get financed. Thankfully, there are a host of options available to help get you the cash you need.

If your credit score is good, you may be able to qualify for an SBA startup loan, which can give you a considerable amount of capital for relatively low interest rates. If you don’t have a super high credit score, you can always go with a nontraditional online lender. Though you may not receive quite as much in the loan, it will at least give you the initial boost you need to get started.

One unique way to fund your business is crowdsourcing. This method involves asking the general population (via social media) to offer donations, in exchange for free gifts or other perks once you’ve gotten off the ground. The best part about crowdsourcing is that the funds are akin to a grant and you typically won’t have to pay the money back.

Create a Business Proposal

Even if you’re not getting funded by a traditional lender, every small business still needs a business proposal. You need to be able to show people at a glance what you’re about, who your target market is, how you plan to operate your business, and all the other minutiae that will make you a successful business. Without this plan, you can set yourself up for failure. It helps define your goals and keep you on track, and encompasses every aspect of the startup so that no stone goes unturned. It’s as much for your own benefit as it is for potential investors, as it allows you to define and measure your success.

Choose a Business Structure

One of the many legal/financial hoops you’ll have to jump through is determining your business structure. If you are the only one involved in the business, you can start a sole proprietorship fairly easily (or a general partnership if you will be running the business with other partners). However, with this structure you may be held personally responsible for any of the business’s financial obligations.

If you are a larger startup and need more flexibility, you can form a corporation or LLC. This also generally exempts you from certain financial liability for the business, so that if anything should happen with the business your own credit will come through unscathed. This is just a few of the different business formation options that are out there. It is best, of course, to discuss the various business formation options and the pros and cons of each with a legal and accounting professional.

Insure Your Business

Once you’ve set up your business structure and financing, you now have to protect your assets by insuring them. A lawsuit, theft, or accident can cause serious financial detriment to your business, so it’s best to head off this situation entirely by purchasing insurance that will cover potential issues you may face.

The type of insurance needed varies depending on the business, so think about any possible troubles that may arise and plan accordingly. At the very least you likely need property insurance (to cover equipment and the physical location of the business) and liability coverage (which deals with accidents, injuries, etc.). Discuss all the variables with your insurance agent, and you’ll come out with a package that will keep your business running smoothly and safely.

Starting a business is a huge step, but by carefully organizing the process you can save yourself time, stress, and hassle. Tackle these five essentials and your startup will be up and running before you know it.

How to Pay for a New Roof Before April Showers Roll Through

April showers may bring May flowers, but they can also do damage to a roof already in need repair. Even if there’s no visible damage, winter weather can cause unseen deterioration and spring rains can worsen the problem. *

The National Association of Home Builders recommends home owners schedule inspections every three years. However, following an especially harsh winter, an “emergency” inspection may be in order. A professional contractor can inspect for:

• Warped and missing shingles
• Chimney flashing damage
• Broken skylight seals
• Loose gutters
• Leaks into the attics and crawl spaces

It’s not uncommon to delay roof repairs and replacements because they are among the most expensive of all home repairs. According to Homewyse, a vendor-neutral online resource for consumers seeking home and construction information, the average cost of a new asphalt roof on a 1,200 square foot house runs between $4,000 and $6,000 in larger markets.

Since water damage can add to repair costs, it’s important to schedule the inspection and take care of any needed repairs or replacements, before the spring showers begin. It’s also a good idea to understand options on how to pay for a new roof or find financing for a new roof to make a financially-sound choice.

Financing Roof Repairs

Finding a qualified roofing professional requires research. After hitting up family and friends for referrals, check paid referral services such as Angie’s List  for roofers with many satisfied customers.   The Better Business Bureau is also a great source to find roofers with a BBB accreditation. During research:
• Make a list of at least three roofing contractors.
• Before financing roof repairs, ask roofers for bids and recommendations for the project. Compare the answers before making a decision.
• Don’t automatically choose the lowest bidder. If a vendor’s bid is 20 percent lower than the competitors, proceed cautiously.  Hidden costs may materialize on the less expensive roofer’s final invoice.
• Get everything in writing, from agreed upon materials, project timeline and estimated cost. Also ask:
o Are the roofing materials covered by a warranty?
o Will special materials be used such as tiles that are fortified against damage from high winds or extreme weather?
o Ask the roofer if the chimney needs repair. The best time to repair or replace one is before roofing repair or replacement.

Paying for a New Roof

Homeowners needing to replace a roof should take the same actions as those who need only roof repairs with one additional step: They should determine how many layers are on the roof and how many layers actually need replacement.

If the roofer recommends replacing three layers of the roof, make certain that the contractor intends to check the surface of the roof (below the damage). This critical step should be included in the written plan.

Factors that Add to the Project Cost

Pitch

The slope of the roof, or pitch, affects cost. The steeper the slope, the higher the price for repairs because it creates additional work for the contractors as well as the need for specialized equipment.

Materials

Keep the cost of the project down to help finance roof repairs by choosing affordable, yet sturdy materials. Asphalt shingles are the most popular roofing material, according to Consumer Reports. They’re light and easy to install, so it should save on material costs and installation.

Composite slate roofing shingles are also light like asphalt, and they look like actual slate. The composite is cheaper than real slate, but more expensive than asphalt.

Metal is another material, with copper being the most expensive metal. Regardless of the materials the homeowner selects, they may wonder how to pay for a new roof.

Top Myths About Bad Credit and Personal Loans

1. You need a high credit score to qualify for a personal loan.

Some applicants think that their credit histories will severely impact their ability to obtain a personal loan. You may have late payments, a foreclosure or other negative marks that could be considered red flags among lenders. However, not all lenders will reject applicants due to poor credit scores alone.

2. You need collateral if you have bad credit.

Secured loans require collateral, which can be in the form of personal assets like a home or a car. Often, lenders will ask for collateral for certain loans because they are concerned the borrower will not be able to repay the full amount. Unsecured loans will generally have a faster application process and don’t require collateral.

3. Repayment terms could be difficult.

When researching options for personal loans, pay attention to the repayment terms and conditions. People with bad credit could be worried they will be unable to adhere to the repayment terms of their loans. It is a common misconception that you will have to pay back your loan all at once. Rather than pay in one lump sum, you could choose a lender that will let you pay back your loan in monthly payments. Consider applying for signature installment loans. These are not only unsecured loans requiring no collateral, but also feature repayment terms that are convenient because loan recipients know exactly how much to pay each month, according to Credit.com.

How you can apply for a personal loan even with bad credit.

Don't let bad credit stop you from achieving your financial goals. Apply for an unsecured personal loan with LoanMe, which features a short application process and easy access to fast cash. LoanMe considers applications from borrowers who have less than perfect credit. You need only three documents to apply: a bank statement, proof of income and a valid form of ID.

Not only can a personal loan help you get on track financially by providing money when you need it, but this type of financing can also help rebuild your credit by improving your on-time payment history. With a personal loan, you can pay down credit card debt or other bills that are coming up.

Busty Olivia Buckland suffers epic fashion fail

She is in the midst of moving into her dream home with fiancé Alex Bowen.
So Olivia Buckland and her handsome beau naturally felt they needed a night away from unpacking as they headed out to the OK! Magazine Beauty Awards 2017 at the Pavilion in the Tower of London on Tuesday evening.
While the 24-year-old typically puts on a flawless display, she was faced with a wardrobe malfunction at the bash as the sexy split in her Julien Macdonald suffered an unsightly split as they made their late arrival at the prize-giving.
Olivia was naturally looking stunning as she hit the ceremony while sporting her sizzling golden gown yet it seemed wear and tear got the best of the dress as she was showing off a pull in the stitching of her split.
The neck of the dress provided a super saucy feel as she framed her eye-popping bust with a tie detail that sat between her perky cleavage to draw attention.

Egyptian security forces kill 11 suspected militants

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior confirms that security forces have killed 11 suspected militants in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia as part of a campaign aimed at “foiling terrorist attempts to destabilise northern Sinai”.

“Security forces monitored movements by some leaders in northern Sinai who planned to carry out a series of attacks against vital institutions and Christian places of worship,’’ the ministry added.

The campaign came after Friday’s assault on a mosque in northern Sinai which killed 305 people, the deadliest attack in Egypt’s modern history.  “A shoot-out erupted when security forces targeted a suspected militant hideout in Ismailia, around 115 kilometres north-east of Cairo, which led to the killing of 11 suspects, who are yet to be identified,’’ the ministry said.

The forces also confiscated weapons and home-made explosive devices, while another nine suspects were arrested for “providing logistical support” for insurgents in northern Sinai. Prosecutors have said between 25 and 30 militants attacked the al-Rawdah mosque in the village of the same name, shortly after Friday’s noon prayers.

However, no group has yet claimed responsibility. Militants affiliated with Islamic State have claimed previous attacks in Egypt.  Those earlier attacks mainly targeted security forces and the country’s minority Christian community.  Report says assaults on mosques are rare in mostly Muslim Egypt.

Zimbabwean President issues 3-months ultimatum to looters to return stolen funds

Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe’s new President has opened a three-month amnesty window for the return of public funds illegally stashed abroad by individuals and companies.
Mnangagwa in a statement Tuesday said that upon the expiration of the amnesty at end of February 2018, the government will arrest and prosecute those who would have failed to comply.
The country's former finance minister Ignatius Chombo, was on Monday charged with three counts of corruption in offences that allegedly took place two decades ago. He was denied bail on Monday and will remain in custody until his case is heard on December 8.  Chombo, who faces charges including trying to defraud the central bank, was detained after the military seized power in “Operation Restore Legacy”, which it said was meant to remove “criminals” around former president Robert Mugabe.
His lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku, told reporters that he would appeal the magistrate’s ruling in the High Court on Tuesday.  “We are hopeful that the High Court will show independence,” Madhuku said.  The magistrate who detained Chombo said the former minister could abscond, influence state witnesses or be the target of a mob attack over the allegations that he abused his position.
Chombo, who was appointed finance minister in October, was among members of the G40 political faction allied to Mugabe and his wife, Grace, who were also expelled from the ruling ZANU-PF party.
Two ousted ZANU-PF Youth League leaders, Kudzanai Chipanga and Innocent Hamandishe, who were both allied to G-40, were also ordered to be detained until Dec. 8.  Some supporters of new president Emmerson Mnangagwa have called for unspecified action against G40 but Mnangagwa has urged citizens not to undertake any form of “vengeful retribution”.
